Has anyone any idea why when you get to the 4th year and are half way through, that the application stops working.

I had this too, but they actually reappeared months later with no rhyme or reason and I agree it does seem to be a faulty app

I have Android so I contacted Google Play, the IT representative asked if I made any purchases on the app. I did so I used my receipt email as reference. They ended up using that number to update my lost data. As weird as it sounds I would suggest making purchases periodically in case you have to contact them.

Make sure you connect via facebook and you will be able to access it again, my touching the hanger icon, where there will be a continue icon, which you touch, then you should see your character and press continue, continue and it should go to any saved character
